Frequently Asked Questions

We will send per order maximum of 10 fabric samples and 3 finish samples. Samples are sent via Standard US Mail; if you would like samples expedited, please provide your FedEx or UPS account number along with instructions on which service level you desire. |
Why does Anderson Teak offer such a large range of products? Our consumers’ preferential taste with regards to the style of furniture is important to us. Every person has a different taste toward our products. Based on our experiences, our preferences continually change along with our age, style, and way of life. Since we supply in all different level of markets with different kinds of preferences, we have to assure that we can cover all markets. |
What is teak oil used for and why should I apply teak oil to my products?Teak oil is used to recover your furniture’s natural golden brown color but is only a temporary solution that must be applied monthly. Furthermore, Teak oil is not actually made from teak oil and does not protect the furniture from UV rays, water, contaminants and moisture from penetrating the wood, unlike a teak sealer which we would rather recommend. Furthermore, when applying teak oil, it will leave an oily substance on the surface of the wood that can accumulate mildew, mold or fungus growth if applied unevenly. |
Teak – Grade A Anderson TeakWhat type of wood does Anderson Teak use on its Anderson Teak Collection? Only Premium Grade-A Teak wood is used under the Anderson Teak Collection with the final product arriving unfinished, sanded smooth, without any finish for an authentic and natural smooth touch – the best way to showcase Grade-A Teak. |
How do I look after my teak furniture?Teak is a natural product; it can be left out in the open all year round through rain, hail or shine. Its color will gradually mellow to a graceful silver grey. The character of your furniture will alter, but its strength will remain. An occasional scrub down with hot soapy water will compliment this process and discourage any moss growth. |
How can I maintain the original color of the golden honey brown from aging to a silver-grey patina? To preserve the original color from aging to a silver-grey patina, you must apply a teak sealer/protectant (not teak oil) onto your furniture. Teak Sealers are different than Teak Oil and works by sealing the existing oils present in the wood, preventing UV rays, water, contaminants and moisture from penetrating the wood. Teak Sealers provide longer lasting protection than Teak Oils – up to one year or more and should be reapplied annually as opposed to monthly application for teak oils, does not leave an oily substance on the surface of the wood that can accumulate mildew, mold or fungus growth and does not affect the teak wood’s natural oils present or it’s color when applying with a clear teak sealer. |
Do I need to wash or clean my teak furniture before using it for the first time?Yes. Before leaving your teak furniture outside where rainfall may occur, we recommend to wipe down with a damp cloth to remove any leftover wood dust from the manufacturing process. Before placing cushions on your teak furniture, remove any leftover wood dust by wiping the furniture with a damp cloth, especially the seats of the furniture as teak wood produces natural oils that will secrete and may stain your cushions if not properly wiped down. Expect some of this natural oil to secrete out following the first few rainfalls, and if in contact with the water, may leave oil stains on your patio or floor. After the first few wipe downs, furniture contact with water should not be an issue. |
How should I clean my teak furniture? To clean your teak furniture, we recommend first scrubbing down the furniture with a stiff bristle brush and then hosing the furniture using soft-pressurized water. After washing down and still wet apply a Teak Cleaner onto your furniture using a sponge and let it sit for 4-5 minutes. Then scrub again to clean and remove excess dirt and build up and finish by rinsing down with hose and water. Cleaning and scrubbing should be done with the grain of the wood |
Do I need to bring my cushions indoor when it rains?Teak has oil that occurs naturally in the wood |
What is not covered under Anderson Teak Manufacturer Factory Limited Warranty? This warranty does not cover and is void if damage is result of freight/shipping. A failure caused by unreasonable or abuse use, acts of God, improper care, freeze damage, mildew, normal wear, fading and stretching of fabrics, glass breakage, glides, repairs, or modifications to the product/s after purchase, or if customer fails to provide reasonable and necessary care maintenance as outlined in our instructions/maintenance and care. Teak wood is a natural material. As such, you may notice checking (small cracks), teak oil secretions, and lifting of the grain as the wood weathers outdoors. These are normal occurrences and are not covered by warranty. |
Care Maintenance
- Wash the furniture with a solution of mild detergent and water. Make sure do not apply detergent directly to the furniture (some detergent are so strong which could left stain on the furniture surface). Scrub it using soft-bristle plastic brush with water, rinse with clear water and dry it.
- For best result, perform this maintenance 2 or 3 times per year.
- Our Anderson Teak furniture products are made of durable materials which can be safely cleaned as often as preferred.
Care and Maintenance of Sunbrella FabricSunbrella® is 100% solution-dyed acrylic fabric. The name Sunbrella is synonymous with the finest outdoor fabric in the world. Sunbrella withstands sun, wind and rain while remaining beautiful for years. The secret to our long lasting color is found in the solution-dying process which locks colors into the acrylic fibers, so they can’t wash out or fade. Fact is, Sunbrella is so durable, we back it with an incredible 5-year limited warranty. So don’t accept an imitation outdoor fabric. For the Sunbrella dealer nearest you, look in the Yellow Pages under “Awnings & Canopies,” “Boat Tops & Covers” or “Patio & Deck Furniture.” |
Care of Sunbrella® FabricWe only use Sunbrella® fabrics to make our cushions and parasols. Sunbrella® fabrics are widely recognized as the best for use outdoors and are used extensively for awnings, boat coverings, convertible car roofs, outdoor furniture cushions, etc. It has a Teflon® coating to help repel stains. Color fast Sunbrella® fabric is made from 100% solution dyed acrylic fiber. The solution dying process adds color to the acrylic fibers while they are in a liquid state during manufacture, which locks in the color and prevents it fading out due to repeated washing or exposure to strong sunlight. This is the secret to Sunbrella’s easy cleaning & long life. |
WarrantyThe Sunbrella® fabrics used in our cushions and parasols carry a 3 year warranty from the manufacturer. This warranty covers the fabric against becoming unserviceable due to loss of color or strength from normal exposure conditions, including sunlight, mildew, rot and atmospheric chemicals. With proper care & cleaning you can expect excellent service from the fabric far beyond the warranty period. |
CleaningOne of the best ways to keep your cushion or parasol fabrics looking good and to delay the need for vigorous cleaning is to hose them off on a monthly basis during the summer season with clean water. This practice will help prevent dirt from becoming deeply imbedded in the fabric and eliminate the need for more vigorous cleaning at a later date. In most environments thorough cleaning will be needed every year prior to the summer season. |
Cleaning a Parasol Canopy on the frameParasol canopies should be cleaned on the frame and not be washed in a machine, as the leather pockets will spoil.
|
Cleaning Cushion CoversWe recommend leaving cushion covers on the cushions for cleaning rather than removing and putting them in a washing machine.
|
Dry CleaningWe do not recommend dry cleaning Sunbrella fabric. The chemicals used in the dry cleaning process will not harm the fabric but due to the high temperatures used during the drying process the heat may cause shrinkage. |
Mildew & Stubborn StainsSunbrella® fabrics will not support the growth of mildew, but dirt on the fabric can lead to mildew growth, this makes regular cleaning important. There is no set frequency for the cleaning of Sunbrella fabric, which is largely determined by the local environment and the frequency and care with which it is used. Cleaning is required less frequently in a dry environment than in a humid one around heavy foliage. If stubborn stains persist you can use a diluted chlorine bleach/soap mixture for spot cleaning of mildew and other similar stains. Prepare a special cleaning mixture and proceed as follows:
|
Is Sunbrella® waterproof?Sunbrella® is not waterproof but it is water repellant. This means that during the manufacturing process a water repellant finish is applied to the fabric. The wear resulting from normal usage and cleaning will slowly reduce the effectiveness of this finish. If your fabric remains constantly exposed to the elements and water repellency is a factor then we suggest that you re-treat your Sunbrella® fabrics after vigorous cleaning with a water repellant treatment or fabric guard, available from marine shops. |
Do Sunbrella® fabrics provide uv protection?Sunbrella® fabrics have been tested and proven to provide up to 98% uv protection from the harmful effects of the sun, depending on the depth of color. White and lighter colored fabrics provide less protection than darker fabrics do. This protective factor is inherent to the product and will not be reduced by usage and/or exposure of the fabric to the sun. |
Fire resistanceOur cushions supplied outside of the North American market use two different types of fire resistant Sunbrella® fabric. Firstly, Sunbrella® firesist that has fire resistance built into the fabric during manufacture and appears visually the same on the right and wrong side. Secondly, standard Sunbrella® furniture fabric with a fire retardant coating applied to the reverse of the fabric, which appears as a rubbery surface. Neither fabric will melt or drip if exposed to heat and both are inherently flame retardant. All our Sunbrella® cushion covers and parasol canopies comply with the UK Furniture & furnishings (fire safety) regulations 1988. |
